Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How can I make an appointment to meet with my student's counselor?

A: Click on the link above to see the contact information for your student's counselor, then call or email to request an appointment.  We strongly recommend scheduling an appointment rather than dropping in to the counseling office so that we can be sure to schedule enough time to address your concerns.

Q:  How can my student get help with their classes?

A:  The best way to get help in a class is to work directly with the teacher.  Students can attend teacher's tutorials on Tu, Wed, and Thurs. for help or schedule another time as appropriate.  There is also help available after school in the tutoring center.  After school tutoring is in the library Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 - 5:15.  Student and adult tutors are available, or you can just use the time for quiet studying and homework.

Q: How can I see how my student is doing in their classes?

A;  Using Parent Portal / My IUSD is the best way to keep track of your student's grades.  If you need help setting up an account, please contact Arne Cohan, the counseling secretary at acohan@iusd.org.  You can also use weekly progress reports to keep up to date on your student's progress.  The form is provided below for you to download and use.  Copies are also available in the counseling office at Mrs. Cohan's desk.

Naviance Family Connection has gone district wide!

Picture
Naviance Family Connection is an excellent resource for both students and parent.

Family Connection includes a scholarship search, college information, career planning, learning style strategies, preparation for ACT and SAT tests, and more!  Best of all it is completely free and available at any time from your home.

Counselors lead students through lessons on Naviance Family Connection as part of the guidance curriculum.  Different grade levels focus on different aspects of Naviance Family Connection.  Counselors and teachers also use Naviance Family Connection as a submission tool for college recommendations, and school reports, required in the college application process.

If you have questions about Naviance Family Connection, please contact your student's counselor.

Naviance Family Connection and some of its subprograms are provided through generous funding  from IPSF, Montessori International and Woodbridge PTSA.

You and your student can also access information about graduation, career guidance, and college planning for the IUSD guidance book.  This guide was created by IUSD counselors (including 3 of the Woodbridge counselors) to serve as another source of information to district families.
